1. Driving along Pioneer Trail to Grandmother McGowan’s house in Mantua in 1978. Grandmother had hanging flower baskets on the front porch.2. Grandfather McGowan. He was large, grumpy and generous. They sent bonds at Christmas time to Great-grandchildren Lauren and Jason for their education.3. When Grandfather McGowan moved into assisted living quarters, Grandmother McGowan moved to her home in Ravenna. She was an independent spirit.4. Visiting her at her home with my Dad and Kay, the bird clock called out a different bird song for each hour. Because Grandmother was blind, she could gage the time by the clock’s song. She cleaned her house every day, and sometimes moved the furniture around by herself when she was in the mood.5. Dad telling stories about going shopping with his mother-in-law. She knew where everything was, and Dad would reach over and get it for her. Dad admired her very much and they were very close friends.6. While visiting her Ravenna apartment house, she would show us the flowers on the patio. She was the one who volunteered to dead head the flowers and make sure they were adequately watered.7. She would show me the painting of the farm where she grew up. She liked to tell about her growing up days on the farm.8. When she was a young woman, she was a nanny for a Jewish couple in Cleveland. She understood the Jewish holidays and knew how to keep a Kosher kitchen.

The last time I saw her was last May. She was not happy that last year so I am happy she is now at peace. Her memory is a blessing to us all.
