Important place name information (especially for primary research)

The “main” place terms gives modern location information.  But in many cases, the location's name has changed since the event took place.

If so, I have entered the contemporary place name appears before the current name.

For church-based events, Geneanet displays the identifying information at the beginning of the entry.

It may be 1) the parish (e.g., St. Thomas); 2) the denomination (ref. = Reformed, luth. = Lutheran, rom. cath. = Roman Catholic, fr. ref. = Huguenot/French Reformed); 3) a combination of both.

For example: [Friedburg, Hztm. Niederbayern, rom. cath.], [Lengau-Friedburg, Braunau, Oberösterreich, Austria] The first three terms give the place name in 1713 and the religion; the last four terms give the modern place name.

Welcome / Willkommen / Bienvenido / Bienvenue!

You are welcome to use my information, but please give me credit (i.e., insert a citation).  I have seen many pages that have cut and pasted my research verbatim without giving me any credit.  Please don't do that. I have invested a great deal of time into researching my family history as well as local history.

Important place name information (especially for primary research)

The “main” place terms gives modern location information.  But many times, the name of the place has changed since the event took place.

If so, Geneanet shows the contemporary place name (at the time of the event) AT THE BEGINNING OF THE ENTRY.

For church-based events, I have entered identifying information - this appears in Geneanet before the current place name.

It may be 1) the parish, like St. Thomas; 2) the denomination (ref. = Reformed, luth. = Lutheran, r.cath. = Roman Catholic, fr. ref. = Huguenot/French Reformed); 3) a combination of both.

For example: [Lengau-Friedburg, Braunau, Oberösterreich, Austria], [Friedburg, Hztm. Niederbayern, r.cath.].

The first four terms give the modern place name.  The last three give the place name in 1713 and the religion.
