Individual Note

Source FamilySearch :

The year that Ruth (Salt) Altman died, 1917, had a wet spring late socrops could not get planted. That was followed by a record early frostit the fall, killing the late planted corn before it matured. Following that was an early blizzard that struck before farmers had their winterswood supply cut and the blizzard was topped by an ice storm depositing 1-2 inches of ice atop the drifts. Farm animals had to be kept in the barns and food and water carried to them. All of that was complicated by WW I and by the flu epidemic that killed many.
