'Roberto le Vavassur ', witness to grant of Roger de Lascy, constableof Chester, to his burgesses of Pontefract of free burgage and the liberties and free laws which the king's burgesses of Grimsby enjoy, 6 June, 1194 [Boynton, citing EYC I:209-211 - original in the possession of the mayor and corporation of the borough of Pontefract]
He served as deputy for Theobald Walter, Sheriff of Lancashire in 1197.
He sought restoration of the manor of Edlington, co. Yorks. (his daughter's maritagium): '... in 1208 he sued Fulk [fitz Warin] for novel disseisin. In 1210 Fulk find £ 100 and a warhorse for having a quickdecision of this suit, but the suit seems to have dragged on at leastuntil 1223, when three justices were assigned to hear the case between "Robert le Vavasur, petitioner, and Fulk Fitz Warin, defendant."
