May have been born in Madrid, Boone County, Iowa.

Per his obit, he died suddenly of a heart attack. A second article said that he had spent the day (Monday) visiting relatives in Denver. En route home he and his wife stopped at South Ideal Market. They "had just left the store when the fatal attack occurred. He died before assistance could reach him." He was a retired farmer who had lived in Longmont since 1920. Another article said that he has been in failing health for the four years preceding his death. Charles and Donna Kevan say that he had not been visiting relatives in Denver, that Grandma Gene and Grandpa Al had come to Longmont.

He was a native of Polk City, Iowa. He farmed in Elbert County, Colorado from 1894 to 1909 and later farmed near Erie for several years.

"The family moved to Longmont in 1920. Since that time he had worked for both county and state highway departments for a number of years. Later he was custodian at the high school, and worked 18 years in all at Great Western Sugar Factory." It was reported that he belonged to the LDS Church, but Charles LeRoy Kevan says that he was adamant about NOT joining the church.

Per Charles L. Kevan, he was a farmer, carpenter, power house operator at the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel.

1920 census for Valmont Precinct (on Eight Mile Road), Boulder County, Colorado, line 79, lists him at age 39 which would have made him born about 1881 (enumeration as of January). Occupation - farmer.
