This branch of the family is based on the 1865 census of Heuvelton (Town of Oswegotchie) for Thomas Sayer. The information in the census record corresponds well with Thomas David Sayer. The record says that Thomas was aged 53 and born in England. His wife was Mary Ann, age 50, also born England. Therefore Thomas was born in 1811/12 and Mary in 1814/15. Mary Smallman had a correspondent that said that Thomsa D. Sayer died in 1869 and came from Canada in 1828-30. They had 14 children, the following were listed with them at home in 1865.
Four of their sons and one daughter moved to Aylmer (now Gatineau), Quebec, located across the Ottawa River from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. First was Robert in 1865, then he was followed by the others.
