John was shot and killed in Civil War. Sergt. Co. A 2nd Louisiana Calvary, enlisted Aug. 18, 1862 Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. Present on roll for Dec. 31, 1862 to Feb. 28, 1863. Roll for July & Aug. 1863. Killed in action August 18, 1863. Died at Mrs. Cox's Hospital, Vicksburg, of wounds received on the "Ram Arkansas". He is laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery, in Warren county, Vicksburg, Mississippi. His widow, Adelaide, eventually applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension and according to records, there is an application containing three pages of file at the Archives in Baton Rouge.
