In the tax records, John is called “John of Jacob” to differentiate him from the (several) other John Emig/Emich/Emicks of similar age in York County.
The marriage record of John Emig and Sarah Schaeffer was announced in the Pennsylvania Herald of March 7, 1833.
Apparently this John Emig died before 1860, as his widow is living with her married daughter Mary (Emig) Yost, as well as John and Sarah’s youngest son Gilbert, in the 1860 census of York County, Pennsylvania. This is sufficient to prove that John Emig and Sarah Schaeffer are not the John and Sarah Emick who were the parents of Frances (Emick) Yost, as this John and Sarah were both still alive (and living in Philadelphia) in 1880. See Frances’ page for her correct line.
