Individual Note

Born in March 1865 at South Shields, Durham. At 16 years old, she was living in St Giles (Newcastle) with her two sisters. In December 1890, she married Errington DUNFORD in Newcastle (nephew of Dorothy Ward, who had Herbert and his sister Emmeline as tenants). Errington DUNFORD was a widower with 7 children. Errington Dunford created Dunford Bros.; he was a prosperous ironmonger and engineering ship builder, owning his own business in Newcastle. The couple had 4 children: Lancelot Babington Dunford (b.1891, Agricultural Produce Broker who died in 1956 in Norfolk), Ernest Thubron Dunford (b. 1893, Clerk, Immigrated to Toronto as a Student, Second Lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps during World War 1, his plane was shot down and he died as a prisoner of war in 1917, buried in Douai, France), Ethel Maud Dunford (b. 1897) and Herbert Thubron Dunford (b. 1899, Private in the Royal Army Service Corps during World War 1, British war Medal and Victory Medal). Errington Dunford died in January 1910 in Newcastle (probate mentioning £11738 personal effects). The same year, Gerturde (his widow) went to Canada, transiting by New York, to visit her sons and stepsons who settled down in Canada. She remarried in 1912 to Edward Freeman. She died in June 1940 in Birmingham.
