Notes
Individual Note
Herbert Brown THUBRON, born between April and June 1860 in Sunderland, Durham. In 1871, at the age of 11, Herbert was sent to a Boarding School, West Grove House, Barnard Castle in Durham. 20 years later, aged 31, we find Herbert living in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (Otterburn Villas), working as an Agent. The census reports him as head of the family, with 4 of his younger sisters living in the same household, all single (Emmeline 27, Lilian 24, Edith 23 and Ethel 21), plus a servant at their service. In 1894, Herbert moved to Claremont Park in Newcastle and worked as a Timber Merchant in Duston, as his late father. From 1896 to 1900, based on the Electoral Registers, Herbert lived in Newcastle. The 1901 census reports him living in Elswick district of Newcastle at Dorothy Ward’s house, with his sister Emmeline. Dorothy Ward also hosts her nephew Errington DUNFORD, who will later marry Herbert’s fifth sister, Gertrude. As for Herbert, he is still single and a Timber merchant. In 1902 (between April and June), Herbert got married to Letitia Marie THUBRON in Long Ashton, Somerset. They both lived in Newcastle from 1902 to 1904 (9 Warkworth avenue). From 1907, Herbert and his wife lived in Harlesden district, London. Their only child, Robert Thubron, was born on February 24th, 1907 in Harlesden. Herbert became a Coal Coke Merchant in 1911 with a new address at 31 Cholmondeley Avenue, Harlesden. From then on, the family lived in Willesden. Herbert passed away on March 29th, 1931 in Willesden, with his probate dated July 1st the same year, mentioning £5 of personal effects. His wife Letitia was born in Bristol in 1876 and died between 1953 and 1954.
