Ezra A. Hansen, South Oldtimer, Called by Death

Cardston. – Ezra Alvin Hansen, pioneer of this district passed away Saturday in the Cardston hospital
2 CONC at the age of 82. He had been in failing health for the past three years. On Sept. 9 he was outside his home here, fell and broke his thigh.

Ezra A. Hansen was born in Logan, Utah, son of Mr. an
2 CONC d Mrs. Niels Hansen. Ezra was one of 9 children. Nov. 18, 1884 he married Mary Neilson in the Logan Temple of the LDS Church. They celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last November. In 1890,
2 CONC Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Hansen came to Canada. Ezra came that summer driving cattle and horses with Hyrum Hansen, Don Hyde, John Nelson and other oldtimers. Three months later Mrs. Hansen and three small ch
2 CONC ildren followed, land in Cardston Sept. The homesteaded on the St. Mary’s river 10 miles from Cardston later moved to Aetna and farmed there for 50 years. That is where they raised their family. In
2 CONC 1936 they retired and moved into Cardston. They are parents of ten children, nine of whome are still living, five sons, James of Aetna, Milton of Lethbridge, Wilfred of Cardston, Leslie of Calgary and
2 CONC Glen of Cardston; and four daughters, Violet H. Tanner of Cardston, Nettie H. Frodsham, Mabie H. Nelson and Lou H. Stringham. He also leaves to mourn his widow, 46 grandchildren and 28 great grandchi
2 CONC ldren. They have had six grandsons in the service, PO. Milton Hansen lost his life in Canada and Sgt Mulloy Hansen, who lost his life overseas.
