We your petitioners beg leave to inform your worships that our present circumstances renders us unable to comply with a late order of court viz a road to wickwires ford which is well known will answer no valuable purpose; striking a desor part of Monongalia County which time will scarce bring to pass of its ever being extended through them desorts and what end will it answer to cut it when never extended--its scarce in our pours to cutt ye former leading road which is not yet a period and money inconveniencys which hope your petitioners prays to be excused from cutting sd road as there is no hope of its being extended and if ever extended your petitioners with pleasure will engage ye cutting our end of sd road--but till then we hope your worships will lay it aside for which we shall be bound and ever to pray" (The petition is apparently in the handwriting of John McCally, the first signer. The signatures are mostly autographs, although some are written apparently by others). Among the signers were: John Murphy, Dennis Murphy, David Murphy.
