12. 1919, 13 Feb: Carroll (County) Free Press; obituary of Jennie (Upshaw) Smith: Mrs. Jennie Smith Passes Away.
Mrs. Jennie Smith, aged 80, died at her home on Dixie Street at an early hour last Friday morning, Feb. 7th.
Mrs. Smith had been in declining health for a number of months and her death was not unexpected by relatives and friends.
The funeral was held from the residence Saturday morning at 10 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. Jesse M. Dodd. Interment was held in the City Cemetery immediately following.
For more than fifty years she had lived in Carrollton. Before marriage, she was Miss Jennie Upshaw and was reared in Carroll County. She was Postmistress for nine years, serving from 1900 to 1909, when she was succeeded by her son, Mr. C.E. Smith. She was the widow of the late George M. Smith who passed away 20 years ago. Two children survive her, Mr. Claude E. Smith and Miss(sic) Mattie Cobb, both of this city.
The Free Press joins the many friends of the deceased in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.

Mrs. Jennie B. Smith, widow of Geo. M. Smith, deceased, died last week at her home on Dixie Street.
Mrs. Smith succeeded her husband as Postmaster at this place, serving about eight years.
She is survived by two children, Mrs. Mattie Cobb and Mr. C.E. Smith, both of this place, and a number of other relatives.
