1. 1838; S. W. Upshaw received bounty warrant #1168 for 1280 acres in Harris
Co, TX, for military service in the Texas War for Independence from
10 Oct 1836 to 19 Dec 1837 (see UFJ, vol 2 page 56).

2. 1838, 6 Jul (signed); File 45, Harris Co, 2nd class certificate, Sam'l W. Upshaw. Class 2 certificate No. 646. Sam'l W. Upshaw has appeared before the Board of land Commissioners fpr Harrisburg (sic) County and proved that he arrived in this republic subsequent to the Declaration of Independence and previous to the 1st of October 1837 and that he is a single man ... is entitled to 640 acres of land to be surveyed after the 1st of August 1838. Signed 6 July 1838.

3. 1839, 25 Dec; McCracken Co, KY, marriage bond book 1, page 67:
Samuel W. Upshaw (of age) to Margaret A. terrell (proven of age), married 25 Dec 1839 by W. White, J.P.; T.F. Terrell, witness.

The Board of Land Commissioners of Harris County do certify that proof has been made that Saml. W. Upshaw emigrated to Texas previous to the first day of Oct., 1837 & decd herein; that he received a conditional headright certificate from the Board of Land Commissioners of Harrisburg (sic) County for 640 acres dated June 6 1838 class 2. The said saml. W. Upshaw by admr. is therefore entitled to an unconditional headright of 640 acres, by virtue of his emigration and the above described conditional certificate. Signed 19 Jan 1852.
