Rockton Herald, Thursday 17 March 1949 Funeral services for Jay Chapman Black, 68, who died Friday night in Beloit Hospital following a heart attack, were held Monday afternoon at the Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer funeral chapel. They Rev. Robert K. Johnson officiated and burial was in Rockton cemetery. Mr. Black was born in Owen township May 4, 1880, and was graduate from Rockford Business College and Beloit College Academy. He was married to Miss Mary Gilmore of Rockford on Feb. 18, 1903. He farmed northwest of Beloit until moving to Beloit where he had been employed by Fairbanks, Morse & Co. for 15 years. He was a member of the Second Congregational church. Surviving are his wife; a son, J.G. Black of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. William Strong of Beloit, Mrs. Glenn Groebesk and Mrs. John Bayless, both Madison; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Emma Parker of Rockton; and two brothers Charles of Beloit and Edom of Roscoe.
