105. Rev. ARUNAH6 ALLEN (Elnathan5) was born in Shrewsbury, Mass.,
Aug. 18, 1767, and died in Stockbridge, Vt., Dec. 14, 1853, . 86.
In February, 1799, he moved from Shrewsbury to Fitzwilliam,
N. H., where he built a house at the end of a road in a remote corner
of the town. Three sides were surrounded by woods, but on
the other side was a small farm which he cultivated. He taught
school several winters, was selectman three years, from 1803 to
1805 inclusive, being chairman of the board the latter year. In
1807 or 1808 he began to preach, and in 1810 or 1811 was ordained
as Elder of the Baptist church. Early in the war of 1812 he was
a delegate to a county convention, called to devise proper measures
to be pursued. He continued to preach in Fitzwilliam until 1823,
when he removed to Stockbridge, Vt., where, and in the neighboring
towns he preached, as his health would allow, until he was
eighty. He came back and preached in Fitzwilliam awhile too.
