He was selectman of Charlestown, 1767 to 1771. He was prominent in military affairs, and at a meeting of the offices of the First Regiment of militia, held November 29, 1774, Thomas Gardner was chosen Colonel, William Bond, Lieutenant, Col., and William Conant, 2nd Lieutenant.
