"Roy" Petty was in World War I, as a supply Sgt.
He ran a country store in Bowling Green South Carolina with Willie Riddle. Later he
bought Willie out and became sole owner. He was also postmaster.
He died of a heart attack.

His obituary (newspaper not cited - dated 3/28/55) -

BOWLING GREEN MERCHANT DIES UNEXPECTEDLY
BOWLING GREEN, S.C.

E. Roy Petty, merchant and postmaster of Bowling Freen for a number of years,
died suddenly about 2 o'clock Monday morning at his home.

Mr. Petty's death was unexpected. He had been ill some months ago and received
treatment at the Veterans Hospital, Columbia, S.C., but he had returned home
and had been at work every day since that time.

He was a veteran of World War I, and was a member of Bowling Green Presbyterian
Church. Mr. Petty was a native of Bowling Green and had lived in that communtiy
all of his life. He was well known both in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Surviving Mr. Petty are his wife, who is a teacher at Robinson school in
Gastonia, a daughter, Mary Florence, Clover High School student; and a son, Ed
Roy Petty, Jr., student at the University of South Carolina.

Besides his wife, the former Mis Florence Nasworthy of Dawson, Ga., and
children, he is survived by five brothers, M. Q. and C. K. Petty of Bowling
Green, W. P. and M. N. Petty of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. Edison Forbes
and Mrs. T. G. Hope of Gastonia, N.C., and Mrs. A.P. Jackson of Bowling Green,
a teacher in the South Gastonia school.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of M. L. Ford Funeral
Home, Clover. The Rev. A.N. Littlejohn, pastor of Bowling Green Presbyterian
Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Bowling Gteen church cemetery.

Mr. Petty was born August 21, 1894, the son of the late W.C. Petty and Laura
Wilson Petty. He was a member of the Masonic order.
