Most of the other historical sources for titles, property, and probate refer to the family surname as BERNERS. Note that the data presented extends beyond the year of the visitation. For example, Thomas, the son of William Barnes and Elsabeth Edon is identified in 1552 visitation entry as having “dyed Yonge.” Probate records indicate he died in 1561, nine years after the visitation. - Chart on page 3 clearly states that Sir John BOWSEY, Lord Barnes, married “Marget,” daughter of Sir Richard Barnes, the first Lord Barnes, and wife Phelype Dalyngridge. Children of Sir John BOWSEY have BOWSEY surname, and only son John Bowsey had the title of "Lord Barnes". Margret's family surname is seen as BERNERS in the majority of other sources. Her spouse's surname is seen as Bowsey in metcalfe, but as Bourchier and Bouchier in most texts.
