JOHN J. JENNY DIES
(Note: John J. Jenny was the son of the first Jennys who came to Franklin County from Switzerland and the father of Frank W. Jenny).

John J. Jenny, for more than fifty years a resident of Union, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Froshaug, Sunday morning, Oct. 22, after an illness of three years. Mr. Jenny was 87 years old, and was born in this county at Jeffriesburg, where he lived until he was past thirty years of age, operating the farm which his father had acquired shortly after coming to this country from Switzerland. His father, the first John J. Jenny, was one of the pioneers of this county, giving the land on which the church at Jeffriesburg was built.

Mr. Jenny worked in the railroad tie business with the late A.J. Gorg, after moving to Union, for a number of years, later going with the Rock Island Railroad as a bridge carpenter. He subsequently worked for the National Cob Pipe Works until about fourteen years ago, when his eyesight failed completely.

He was a man of remarkable mentality and one of the best informed men of the county. Even during the past three years when his illness kept him in constant pain, he was as alert mentally as ever, recalling with great accuracy, events and people of half a century ago and discussing with his many visitors, current affairs.

He is survived by only two of his seven children, Mrs. Fred Froshaug and Mayor Frank W. Jenny. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon before a large assemblage of neighbors and friends.
