MR. AND MRS. REGINALD HILL OF "HONEYBROOK"

Some 17 years ago two visitors from London - Mr and Mrs. Reginald Hill - came to Minehead for a summer holiday. They liked the town and its surroundings so much that not only did they return here the following summer but in 1939, when Mr. Hill retired from business, settled down here in a small villa residence at Periton, which was built more or less to his own designs. "Honeybrook" they called it - a name of pleasant savour - and there, on Sunday last, they kept the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding, quietly but happily, with all but one of their grandchildren around them, and messages of congratulation and good wishes, as well as acceptable gifts, from many old friends as well as their family.

When Mr. Hill retired he was the head of the industrial heating and cooking department of the General Electric Co. Ltd., at their headquarters in Kingsway, London. For over 30 years he had been with that company, and a valued reminder of his association with it, which Mr. Hill showed a "Free Press" dropped in takes the form of a framed certificate that hangs on the wall of his sitting-room, which was presented to Reginald John Hamilton Hill, by Lord Hurst, chairman and managing director of the G.E.C., in 1929, on the completion of 20 years service, as an expression of the appreciation and goodwill of the board of directors, But much happened, of course, before Mr. Hill, who is now 75, became one of the departmental chiefs of G.E.C, When his father, who was in practice as a doctor at Southsea, died, leaving a widow, with little means, and three young sons, of which he was the eldest, he enlisted-this was about 1895-in the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, and he recalls, as a matter of no little interest, that Lieut. Winston Churchill was his squadron officer. After three or four years in the Hussars Mr. Hill bought himself out, and got an office job, at the Dub)
