Grossman, Charles S., 71, of Armory Drive passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at home after a courageous battle with Barrett’s Esophageal Cancer. He was the husband of Debbra (Hulme) Grossman. Born in Buffalo, NY he was the son of the late Jane (Kelley) Grossman and William F. Grossman, Sr. He was an independent insurance agent since 1997 and past president of Dytex Chemical Company. In addition to his loving wife of 15 years he is survived by his children; Charles H. Grossman, Sr. and his wife Allison of Newburyport, MA; Cara L. Groomes and her husband Benghi of Springfield, MA; stepdaughter, Emily (Woodcock) Wayland and her husband Dennis J. of Warwick; two grandsons Charles H. Jr. and Brendan of Newburyport, MA. Charles was the brother of Joanne Connolly of Dover, MA, Kathryn Spicer and Paul Grossman of Barrington, RI, William F. Grossman, Jr. of Bristol, RI and was the son-in-law of Ann Hulme of Warwick. He was the president of Dytex Chemical Company, from 1976-1996, a member and past president of the Chemical Club of New England, a member of the Board of Directors of the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce and served as president in 1981; a member of the Board of Directors of the S.B.A.N.E in 1989; a delegate to President Carter’s Washington Conference on Small Business in 1990 and 1991. Charles coached and managed his children’s hockey, baseball, and softball teams. He served as Chair at St. Mary’s Academy of Bayview Manhattan by the Bay Fundraiser in 1990 and 1992; Chair of the Providence Country Day First Fundraiser at the RI State House Rotunda. He was a member of the Big Brothers of RI, sponsoring many little brothers. He was an active member of St. Kevin’s Church where he served as a Lector, member of the Finance Committee and also served on many other church fundraising committees.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 8th at 1:30 pm from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Kevin’s Church, 333 Sandy Lane at 2:30 pm. Visiting hours will be held Friday May 7th 4-8 pm at the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, RI. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Tomorrow Fund, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02905 or St. Kevin’s School, 39 Cathedral Rd., Warwick, RI 02889 would be greatly appreciated. His burial will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
