On May 28 1887 in front of the Mayor of Campobasso appeared Felicita Gaetano, aged 52, profession receiver of the foundlings, to present a baby male, apparently 8 days old, who was wrapped in diapers and had as distinguishing mark a light blue ribbon around the neck, with a silver rose and some white daisies. Felicita declared that the baby was found in the foundling wheel at 4am.
The baby was given the name Raffaele and the surname Barbarossa and was given to the wet nurse Carmela Di Vincenzo wife of Domenicantonio Paolone a farmer living in Castropignano.
Side notes: On October 30 1909 he married Maria Iorio On July 27 1926 he was recognized by Lucia Belvedere (daughter of unknown parents)
