According to sworn info he gave in his Indian Wars pension application, John was born in Johnson Co. Missouri. While on his death certificate, Knobs,KY is given as birth place. The death certificate info was given by Clara Bell Jones, his daughter.

Oakley, Jan. 21 - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Episcopal Church here for John Hill, 82, a resident of this village for 59 years, who died at Memorial Hospital in Owosso Saturday night of Bright's disease from which he had been a sufferer for two years. He was taken to the hospital on Friday night.
The Rev. C. B. Lyon, Pastor of the first Church of in Owosso will officiate and interment will be made in the Oakley Cemetery.
Mr. Hill was born in Knobbs MO. September 6, 1862. He resided in Kansas for a number of years and was married in that state to Miss Kate Whitmer, December 4, 1872, coming to Oakley in 1874. She died in 1915. Mr. Hill was foreman of the section crew on the Michigan Central Railroad here for many years, retiring on a pension in 1915. He was a member of the Pioneers' Association of the Michigan Central.
Surviving are four sons, Arthur, of Oakley; Frank and Samuel, of Lansing, and Henry, of Los Angeles Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Jones, of Vernon, and Mrs. Monroe Towne, of Detroit; one brother, Valentine of Fort Leavenworth, Kas; two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Borkert of Council Grove, Kas, and Mrs Mary Brown of Kansas City, Kas, and 29 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
