Individual Note
Lola Montès était une charmeuse. Il y avait dans sa personne un je ne sais quoi de provocant et de voluptueux qui attirait. Elle avait la peau blanche, des cheveux ondoyants comme des pousses de chèvrefeuille, des yeux indomptés et sauvages et une bouche qu'on aurait pu comparer alors à une grenade en bouton. Ajoutez à cela une taille lancinante, des pieds charmants et une grâce parfaite. Par malheur elle n'avait, comme danseuse, aucun talent. » (Gustave Claudin).
Lola Montes était tombée malade, cette dame la fit transporter à New-York dans une famille très-pauvre, qui l'accueillit contre une faible somme d'argent.
« La malheureuse passa plusieurs mois d'hiver dans une chambre sans feu, presque sans nourriture et maltraitée par sa vieille hôtesse.
« Un prêtre le P. Hacoks, qui fut appelé à. ses derniers moments, la trouva dans un état de misère effroyable. Son agonie fut terrible ; elle se croyait entourée de démons et jetait des cris déchirants.
