Born at 36 Winsley Rd, St James, Colchester third ward, Ref #1891/66, Essex, England and lived near Biggin Hill, when young. The family emigrated to Albany W.A. in 1898 aboard 'Ormuz', then to Auckland New Zealand in 1901. He remembered walking along Collins St, Melbourne with his father, and seeing the shop windows being decorated in black because news of Queen Victoria's death had just arrived, January 1901. George moved back to Australia, arriving in Sydney on 3 Jan 1913 as a steerage passenger. On 25 Nov 1915 he was appointed head teacher at a new school in Frazerview, Queensland, The school was destroyed by fire on 28 Nov 1915, three days after opening. It was rebuilt and reopened on 8 Nov 1916. George also worked as a pay master in civil service in Canberra. In 1932 he was a senior master at Albury Grammer School, he moved to Canberra Grammar School in 1933, as a french teacher, he stayed there until 1941. He starting at Scotch College, Launceston, in 1945 and stayed there until 1949. Later, he taught at Ulverstone High School and then at Queechy High School, in Launceston.
Note:- At Canberra Grammar School from 1933 to1941, name was followed by FBAS. He donated brass candle sticks
to the chapel in 1935 and helped with the move of the chapel in 1941. ref old school maginzines.
Notes from Scotch College archives state that George Ollard took over classes in French and Geography in 1945, in addition he is noted for his valuable work in the Upper and Middle Schools and practical help in mamagement of the boarding house and with coaching of the rowing crews. This work was much appreciated by the headmaster, Mr Briggs. He left Scotch College, when Mr. Briggs left at the end of 1949. He started a chicken hatchery at "Kingsley" Longford, the home of his wife.
