N.B.: Pour mon arrièregrand-père Amédée,le titre de Comtehéréditaire accordé par le pape LéonXIII était sans aucun doute unhonneur insigne etune grande fierté. Titre, du reste, assez mal vu par lanoblesse française. Concernant ses descendants duvingt-et-unième siècle, il est évidemmentà prendre avec un sourire.

Sir Henry Frederick Howard, 22nd Earl of Arundel was the son of Sir Thomas Howard, 21st Earl of Arundel and Lady Alethea Talbot. He was born on 15 August 1608. He married Lady Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of Esmé Stuart, 3rd Duke of Lennox and Katherine Clifton, Baroness Clifton of Leighton Bromswold, on 7 March 1625/26. He died on 17 April 1652 at age 43 at Arundel House, The Strand, London, England. He was buried at Arundel Castle, Arundel, West Sussex, England.
He gained the title of Earl of Surrey. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) on 4 November 1616. He held the office of M.P. for Arundel from 1628 to 1629. He held the office of M.P. for Callan (Ireland) in 1634. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) (Ireland) on 10 August 1634. He held the office of M.P. for Arundel in 1640. He succeeded to the title of Lord Mowbray on 13 April 1640. He fought in the Battle of Edgehill. He graduated from Oxford University on 1 November 1642 with the degree of Master of Arts (M.A.). He succeeded to the title of 22nd Earl of Arundel on 4 October 1646. In 1648 he was fined £6,000 by Parliament, but allowed to compound for his estates.
